What is the role of the Launch Team at EnQii?
As Director of Network Launch, my function – and the function of the entire team – is to get our customers’ digital signage off the ground successfully. That involves all aspects of hardware, software, client communications, content management and, of course, installation. Installation is one of the most critical aspects and can be costly if not executed efficiently. We look at ensuring quality and driving down-the-cost efficiencies through every step of deployment.
How long have you been with EnQii?
I’ve been with EnQii four years now, the first two spent in at the head office in London. Prior to that, I’ve been with a number of technology companies, in a project management and service delivery capacity and always in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is paramount.
Tell me about the launch team.
We have a fantastic team. Our key players have over 20 years of digital signage experience. Our launch team is critical to our customer success. John Baggot, our Technical Launch Manager, works with clients and the whole team on what the technical solution for the deployment should be.
Specific members of the team are in charge of setting up Remote Transfer as well as receiving assets from the clients and creating and scheduling play lists. When we have more complex networks where we’re providing split-screens or local messaging, key members of the team are responsible for managing this piece of the deployment to make sure that the content is playing correctly on the screen at the right time.
There are team members that serve as point of contacts for our clients. They are responsible for the overall project. While still others are in place to support the team and ensure success.
John, myself and the whole team tend to site-specific issues, pushing through bottlenecks that occur during deployment between end user and the installation partner. Communication is key, both with clients and our installation partners. We’re constantly connected via email or phone.
The entire launch team is in a unique position, as it has to have an understanding of all the disciplines of the organization and then bring that together for the client. And the culture here at EnQii encourages learning and growth. It’s important that team members see a progression in their role with added responsibility and to feel that they are part of a team. Our team meetings are designed to encourage communications. It’s not about just updating the project. It’s about what’s working and what’s not. And this team really wants to make things work for our customers. There may be issues, but 99% of the time we have a recommended solution to help them. A solution that always ensures quality and expediency.
What makes a launch exciting?
It’s the variety and it’s the fact that you have so many touch points getting the network to launch successfully. It’s really like putting on a show. You get kind of a buzz when all those touch points come together. It’s also the variety of the networks that we’re deploying. Casinos, wellness centers, airports, etc…
The deployment for the London Underground, for example, was amazing. It was incredible to be there at 3 o’clock in the morning with your boots and helmet on, and finally we plugged everything in and turned it all on -- and it worked! It was a huge achievement.
What are your goals for 2009?
Looking ahead the aim for 2009 is to reach 800-1,000 screens a month.
We’re working on launching an installation database to enable us to further scale and centralize site-specific information such as working with the PROMS team in Canada to support the implementation of the service ticket module.
Other plans include bringing on additional install partners and of course always ensuring that we bring fresh ideas to how we can deploy faster and smarter while retaining the same high quality of delivery our customers expect.
The feedback we get from our clients is very positive in terms of the experience of installation, attention to detail and our communication with our client. Really, we’re just a nice bunch to work with. We get things done.
